The Kodály Philosophy
The choir followed Zoltán Kodály’s philosophy of music education and used an aural-vocal based experience of music to develop literacy, musicianship, and performance skills. The Kodály concept is a philosophical approach to teaching music which was developed in Hungary during the mid-twentieth century by composer and educator Zoltán Kodály. Since then, Kodály’s philosophy of music education has developed into what is now regarded as a world-class approach to successfully teach music to children and adults. Kodály believed that music completes a person, emotionally, spiritually, and intellectually, and that, ideally, music education should begin as early as possible and is most effectively achieved collaboratively and through singing.
